What could be more appropriate for a regional office located in Juneau, the seat of the state’s capitol, than a movement of self-advocacy.  The Juneau/South East region boasts the “Rockwell Group,” a day services development committee run and organized by individuals and other stakeholders.  Undertaking the voluntary leadership role in this regard is an individual who chooses Hope’s supports and serves as the designated Rockwell Day Services Committee Coordinator.  Rockwell’s emphasis is on support recipient involvement and having the primary say in how day services are developed in Southeast and with the organization of planned social and recreational activities.  The Rockwell Group was established in 2008 and their accomplishments include developing a community focused recycling program; voluntary work opportunities; developing a year-round activities program; fostering sharing and giving back to the community; and serving as the fundraising force for Southeast.

Services Specific to the Region:

Hope currently owns and operates two assisted living homes in Juneau and one in Ketchikan.  The majority of services in this region are provided through natural family settings, promoting Hope’s mission of keeping families together.

This region has a very active recreation program that includes lots of crafting opportunities and socials.  With the transition to a larger building, they will be looking at growing their current recreation program and incorporating a subsistence and cultural camp program.

Community Involvement:

Picture of tea party goodiesThe Juneau/Southeast Region welcomes individuals from other agencies to participate in its social gatherings and functions to foster relationships with others and share the great things that Hope can offer.

The team is very involved in the Key Campaign each legislative session, advocating for adequate funding and services on behalf of people who experience disabilities.  They work with many of the local organizations and like agencies to coordinate this effort each February/March.

Each year the Juneau office hosts a small silent auction in August to raise funds for its recreation program and they participate in the Virtual Walk & Roll for Hope to augment other needs within their program.
