Climbing Mountains, Making Change...
The Key Campaign XXIII is a statewide effort to advocate for disabilities and community disability services. The Coalition is committed to preserving the current community service system as it pertains to quality, adequate funding and consumer choice.
For the past 22 years, the campaign has been amazingly successful in affecting needed change to allow Alaskans the opportunity and access to necessary services within the community. Unfortunately, each year there are new or ongoing issues that need to be addressed through the Key Coalition. In 2010, families and service providers watch with alarm and critical concern as community programs and waiver rates continue to be overlooked when adjusting appropriate rate increases.
What does this mean? It means that as the cost of living escalates, there is no equitable process for determining rate increase for community services.
What can I do? Contact your legislator. Let them know the importance of providing resources to allow people to live within the community of their choice while receiving the support they choose.
