Michele GiraultExecutive DirectorMichele grew up in Colorado in a family of educators. Her career in the disability support sector began as a Direct Support Professional, not by “plan,” but as a result of a friend who thought she might enjoy the work and invited her to work at a small institution in San Jose, CA. She fell in love with the people she was supporting, so a “temporary job” after college transitioned into a career spanning decades. After a visit to Alaska and experiencing the beauty of the landscape and the warm welcome of the people Michele moved to Alaska in 1984. She was hired at ‘Hope Cottages’ as a Resource Specialist and has served for 39 years in varying positions, currently as CEO. Michele is also a long term member of the Key Coalition of Alaska serving currently as the President of the Board of Directors, and also serves on the board of Friends of Pets, an animal welfare organization. Her educational background is in Human Development and Organizational Management. Michele lives in Anchorage with her husband Chuck who she originally met when they worked together in San Jose. Together they have shared their home with many dogs and cats throughout the years. In addition they maintained close relationships with two people they supported in the institution, becoming guardians for both and moving them to Alaska so they could have full and thriving lives. |
